Law Firms Merge, Move to New Offices at Historic
Site Downtown

Three Kernersville Attorneys have merged their practices into
a new firm, and have moved into new offices in the historic Stuart
Motor Company building in downtown Kernersville.
Joseph M. Coltrane, Jr. and Wendy H. James were members of the
Law Office of Joseph M. Coltrane, Jr., PLLC, and Jason T. Grubbs
was the managing attorney of Grubbs Law Firm, P.A.
The new firm will be called Coltrane, Grubbs & James, PLLC.
The new offices are located at 109 East Mountain Street, Suite D,
in Kernersville.
The firm will offer a wide range of legal services, including
real estate title searches and loan closings; wills, trusts and
estate planning; probate and estate administration; contracts and
legal services for businesses, including LLC's, corporations, partnerships
and other business entities; business litigation; personal injury
litigation; consumer and business bankruptcy; traffic infractions;
and general consultation and advice on most other legal issues.
Each of the three attorneys is a Kernersville native.
Joseph (Joe) Coltrane graduated from East Forsyth High School
in 1965, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in
1969. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1973, assigned to the
White House Communications Agency in Washington. He graduated from
the UNC Law School, and returned to Kernersville to practice in
1977. He has been a member of, and has served as an officer in a
number of civic clubs, and is a member of Main Street United Methodist
Church. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the
North Carolina Bar Association, and the Forsyth County Bar Association.
He is married to Anne Coltrane, and they have one son, Lee Coltrane,
of Raleigh, NC.
Jason T. Grubbs is a 1995 graduate of East Forsyth High School
and received a B.A. in Political Science and Communications from
Virginia Tech in 1999. After graduating from Wake Forest University
School of Law, he began his practice in Kernersville in 2003. He
is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Kernersville, and is on the Board
of Directors of Imprints for Families, a local non-profit organization
dedicated to family and child development; He is a member of the
North Carolina Bar Association, Forsyth County Bar Association,
Forsyth County Young Lawyers, Winston-Salem Estate Planning Council,
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Alumni, and the Rotary Club of Kernersville;
He is married to Jayne Walker Grubbs, and they are members of Kernersville
Moravian Church.
Wendy Hobson James graduated from Robert B. Glenn High School
in 1996 and received a B.A. in Political Studies and minor in Psychology
from Meredith College in 2000. After graduating from North Carolina
Central University Law School, she began her practice in Kernersville
in 2004. She is a member of the current Leadership Kernersville
class and is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association,
the Forsyth County Bar Association and the National Association
of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. She is married to Chris James
and they are expecting their first child in October.
The new law firm leases and occupies a 3,000 square foot office
suite in the historic Stuart Motor Company building, which is now
owned by a Coltrane family corporation. The new offices make use
of the original brick interior walls of the first automobile dealership
and showroom in Kernersville, dating from 1926. The open interior
of the offices leaves exposed the massive steel girders as well
as the skylights in the historic structure. Architectural design
was by Owen Architecture, and the interior design was by Workplace
Strategies. R.P. Murray, Inc. of Kernersville was the general contractor.
